The latest release of the Chambers and Partners Guide has recognised the expertise of Meaby & Co’s Managing Partner, Chris Waters, for his representation of individuals in complex disputes.
Used by in-house counsel, professional advisers and prospective clients globally, the Guide is built on months of research, which helps build a picture of the UK’s leading lawyers and firms.
Chris has been ranked in Band 3 for Commercial and Corporate Litigation: Individual Representation in London.
This recognises the growing scale of his work in the UK and international litigation space.
Chris specialises in complex, high-value disputes, acting for businesses, directors, shareholders, insolvency practitioners and high-net-worth individuals.
His practice covers shareholder disputes, fraud and asset recovery, professional negligence, contentious insolvency and director litigation, and much of his work has an international dimension involving assets or evidence held overseas.
He is a Registered Practitioner of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts, where he has a busy practice, and an accredited civil and commercial mediator.
Most notably, Chris has led the defence team in the high-profile SKAT v Solo Capital Partners LLP litigation brought by the Danish Tax Agency.
He represented the lead defendant group of Sanjay Shah, Usha Shah and 26 of their corporate entities.
With a value in excess of £2bn, the case is understood by the presiding judge to be one of the largest and most complex ever heard by the Commercial Court.
Alongside his own caseload, Chris is responsible for the strategic direction of the firm, combining hands-on litigation work with oversight of its litigation practice and the development of its junior lawyers.
Speaking about his recognition within Chambers and Partners, Chris said: “It is an honour to be recognised in the latest Guide, especially for the significant work in relation to SKAT v Solo Capital Partners LLP.
“My inclusion within Chambers and Partners wouldn’t be possible without the support of those who support me and the work of our incredible team at Meaby & Co.”
Part of the research process sees the Chambers and Partners team discuss the services delivered with clients and professional contacts.
During the interviews, one client said: “Chris is an excellent lawyer with a fantastic client focus. He has drive and knowledge and real commercial vision,” while another described his expertise and approach to litigation as “absolutely brilliant.”
Chris said the comments from those he has guided are highly valued and reflect the incredible effort put in by him and his team.
“We hope that my recognition within the Guide will help others to find our services, so that we can support them, as and when they need leading litigation advice,” added Chris.
