David is the Partner heading up our Dorking office.
He specialises in commercial property and leasehold reform, advising landlords, tenants, developers and investors on complex property matters.
With more than 20 years’ experience, David has built a strong reputation for providing practical, commercially focused advice across the full spectrum of commercial property transactions and leasehold reform.
His commercial property practice encompasses acquisitions and disposals, the grant and renewal of commercial leases and advising on complex mixed-use developments and multi-let properties.
He also advises on the full range of landlord and tenant matters, including licences to assign, licences for alterations, lease interpretation and wider asset management issues.
David has developed expertise in the complexities arising under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1987, advising on the sale and acquisition of blocks of flats and the challenges the legislation presents when developing rooftop space on existing residential buildings.
In relation to leasehold reform, David acts on some of the most technically demanding matters in the sector. His experience ranges from straightforward lease extensions for ex-local authority flats through to multi-million-pound lease extensions involving premiums exceeding £4 million and multiple landlord interests.
He has also advised on numerous large-scale collective enfranchisement claims, including developments comprising more than 130 flats with around 100 participating leaseholders.
David has represented many of his landlord clients for over two decades, with several relationships dating back to his time as a trainee solicitor.
David thoroughly enjoys the more complicated elements of leasehold and reform work. However, he never loses sight of the commerciality of the process.
He has experience in:
- Granting new tenancies
- Disposals and acquisitions of land
- Mixed-use and multi-tenanted sites
- Landlord and Tenant Act 1987

- Ancillary commercial property work, including licences to assign, licences for work and advice on interpretation
