The Employment Law team at Meaby & Co delivers results to businesses and individuals.

Our Employment law team is headed by Steven Eckett and Chris Marshall. Steven is a Partner with over 25 years’ experience in all aspects of Employment law, while Chris is an Associate, having changed careers, previously being employed in the financial sector before turning to law and becoming a qualified lawyer in 2015.

Meaby&Co Employment Law

Meaby & Co has experienced employment solicitors who can assist both businesses and individuals with their day-to-day employment needs.

Our team offers practical, legal advice and creates strategies which are all aimed at resolving disputes at an early stage to try to avoid an escalation of costs.

Businesses

Employment Law Advice For Businesses

We are able to support businesses by ensuring that strong contracts of employment tailored to the needs of the organisation and that up-to-date policies and procedures are in place. We also advise on various processes including disciplinary and grievances and individual or collective redundancies.

Our employment solicitors are able to assist with the Transfer of Undertakings Regulations in the event of buying or selling a business that has existing employees and can provide advice and support in managing the employment relationship to ensure that it is successful.

Meaby&Co realises that sometimes the employment relationship can break down and our employment solicitors can advise on dealing with difficulties in the work-place and terminating the arrangements with minimal risk and exposure.

Whilst we cannot always prevent employment tribunal claims from being issued, we are best placed to assist businesses in managing and defending those proceedings.

We can also advise on the implementation and enforceability of restrictive covenants to protect the business and its client relationships.

Employees

Employment Law Advice For Employees

Our employment solicitors also have a proven track record of successfully representing individual claimants in a wide variety of sectors .

These are often in circumstances where they have been unfairly dismissed, or have been subjected to unlawful discrimination; for example based on their sex, marital status, race, age, disability, religion and belief or sexual orientation.

Sometimes our individual clients are unlawfully dismissed after they have made a protected disclosure known as whistleblowing and we have particular expertise in dealing with these cases. We also have huge experience in helping employees who have been bullied, harassed or have simply fallen out with their line manager.

We are also experts in issuing employment tribunal claims, as well as assisting with mediation and dispute resolution with the aim of quickly settling disputes.

Many of our individual clients are sometimes issued with settlement agreements as part of an exit strategy and this is an area where our employment solicitors can provide assistance and, in some circumstances, can negotiate a better deal.

Cases

Recent Employment Law Cases

Recently we successfully defended an Employer at an employment tribunal against claims for race and religious discrimination and have also successfully brought a claim on behalf of a female high net worth individual who was the subject of pregnancy discrimination.

Increasingly we are also being instructed on the issue of worker status in the gig economy and are advising a number of businesses and individuals on status and associated rights based on the reality of the relationship that has been created or that is planned.

Meaby & Co’s employment solicitors can assist with everything across the employment spectrum from recruitment to termination and beyond. In our experience it is best to seek timely advice as opposed to letting events escalate where it might then be more difficult and costly to deal with.
